Rule Number One! (and Two)
(Paul Watkins 04/28/09)
The link above is one of my favorite Barney Fife clips. It is his famous "Here at the Rock" speech. In case you're reading this and the link is obsolete I'll quote part of what Barney says.
"Now men, here at the Rock we have two basic rules. Memorize them so that you can say them in your sleep. ... The first rule is ... obey all rules. Secondly, do not write on the walls, as it takes a lot of work to erase writing off of walls.
Seeing as Barney Fife was one of my heroes growing up (or at least one of my favorite characters) I have adopted a similar basic set of rules in supporting PC users. And here are those two rules:
Rule #1 - "Back It Up!" Think about it this way. If my computer crashes while I'm reading this, and the hard drive is totally dead, do I have important files copied somewhere outside of my computer, where I can copy them back, after I get my hard drive replaced and up and running again? Take it one question further. If I do have all my important files backed up some place safe, do I know how to restore them?
