The Administrator
Home                                                                  (Paul Watkins 03/07/11)                                                                  Tips

This tip is for those of you who are more "geeky" or want to be. Please be aware that when using the Administrator account you have more opportunity to do more damage to your system if you don't know what you are doing. So BE CAREFUL! That being said, there are times you may need to login as administrator. (e.g. You've forgotten your password and can't get in to your normal account.)

By default Vista and Windows 7 are not configured for you to login with the Administrator account. So here is what you do to configure your system so you can login as administrator.
  • Go to the Start Button > All Programs > Accessories and right-click on the Command Prompt.

  • Choose "Run as Administrator". This will open the command prompt using the Administrator account.

  • Now type "net  user  administrator  /active:yes" and Enter.

  • Log out of Windows and you should now have the option to choose to login with the Administrator account along with any other accounts you have on the computer. (If this is the first time the Administrator account has been used, there is probably no password.)
  • If you want to configure things back to the way they were (not a bad idea for safety's sake), repeat the process above only replace the word "yes" with "no" after the "active:". (i.e. net user administrator /active:no    instead of    net user administrator /active:yes)
    A Word From God

    Zechariah 7:9-11
"This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another.
Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the alien or the poor. In your hearts do not think evil of each other.'

"But they refused to pay attention; stubbornly they turned their backs and stopped up their ears.
